October Update: Meet Goku, Moose, Poppy, Bailey, Clint Eastwood and Sofie 〰️

Remember the catchy Sesame Street song about "Who are the People in Your Neighborhood?" How about the dogs you meet or see in the park when you’re walking down the street? The different breeds, mutts, and mixes. How about the new pups on the block, like the Labradoodles and other Doodles? Well, move over, humans; it's time to meet the real VIPs – the dogs! Pooches strutting down the street, from majestic purebreds to eclectic mutts, make our neighborhood a four-legged fiesta. And hold your biscuits, folks—there's oodles of Doodles and more taking over the block!

Are you like me? I get more excited about meeting a cute dog on the street than I ever have about any athlete or celebrity sighting. I mean, who needs movie stars when you have fluffy tails and wet noses, right? I absolutely love discovering different breeds and their quirks. You too?

Some Dog Breeds and Descriptions

Cavapoo

A Cavapoo is a mix of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the toy poodle. The Cavapoo, sometimes called a Cavadoodle or Cavoodle, is a small dog breed with soft, curly fur.

Introducing you to the mysterious Cavapoos, the trendsetting Labradoodles, and the fabulous Goldendoodles. It's not just a walk; it's a canine runway, and every pooch is a star. You better work! There are so many newer breeds of dogs. For example, at one point I couldn’t tell you a Goldendoodle from a Magna doodle. I’m being facetious.

Goldendoodle

Sometimes called a Groodle, is a crossbreed between a golden retriever and a poodle.

Get ready to unleash your inner dog paparazzi as we sniff out the stories, wagging tails, and the occasional paw-some fashion statement.

Join the paw-ty as we dive into the fur-tastic world of the new pups on the block. Because when it comes to 'hood vibes, it's not just about who's on the corner; it's about who's wagging on the sidewalk!

Labradoodle

Labradoodle

A Labradoodle is a crossbreed dog obtained by breeding a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. The goal of this crossbreeding is to combine the intelligence and hypoallergenic coat of the Poodle with the friendly and outgoing nature of the Labrador Retriever

Red and Blonde Cocker Spaniels

Cocker Spaniels, encompassing both American and English breeds, originated as hunting dogs in the UK, named for their skill in hunting woodcock. Adaptations were made when the breed was introduced to the US for hunting American woodcock, leading to further physical changes.

Growing up I had some neighbors that owned a pair of Cocker Spaniels named Lucky and Penny. Penny was the red one. My neighbor’s husband would take them bird hunting with him and my Great Uncle.

Australian Cattle Dog-Dat’s My Dawg

The Australian Cattle Dog is a compact and muscular breed known for its agility and endurance. With a short double coat, their distinctive blue or red speckled appearance offers protection from harsh weather. Known for their remarkable herding skills, Australian Cattle Dogs are sturdy, agile, and display an unwavering dedication to their tasks. Hence, herding my parents down the hall into their bedroom.

French Bulldog

I was surprised to find out that the Frenchie, is not a mix of breeds; it is a distinct breed on its own. It originated from the English Bulldog and was selectively bred in the 1800s in France. The breed was developed for companionship and became known for its distinctive bat-like ears, compact size, and charming personality.

Corgi-means dwarf

The Corgi is a small type of herding dog originated in Wales. Queen Elizabeth owned 30 of these cuties throughout her 70 year reign.

German Shepherd

German Shepherd: Kid seeing the dog in back of the police cruiser, innocently asked officer, “What did he do?”

A German Shepherd is a breed of dog that originated in Germany. Used as guard or guide dogs.

Pug-pet of the ruling elite

Reminds me of Frank the pug in the MIB movies. It is a dwarf breed originated in China. See Pugs and Kisses

The Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is a Scottish breed of retriever dog of medium size. My next-door neighbor, back home in WV had a pair of these beautiful dogs. He would take

Now my sisters have adopted Golden Retriever baby dogs. See below…

Airdale Terrier

The Airedale Terrier, known as the "King of Terriers," is the largest terrier breed. Loyal and loving, they make excellent family pets and excel in dog sports like obedience and agility. Originating from Yorkshire, England, in the 19th century, Airedales were initially bred for hunting but later served in various roles in World Wars I and II.

Chihuahua

A Chihuahua is a small breed of dog that originated in Mexico.

I pass by one of these lil cuties on my walk to the neighborhood grocery store. His mommy opens her front door and lets him sit in his bed in front of the hinged entry way glass door for all passersby to enjoy.

Boxer: Wook at dat face. The Boxer is a hunting mastiff developed in Germany.

My younger sister had such a precious pup like this one named Bella. For a while there, boxers were the only breed of dog that she was a fan of. Now she has adopted a boxer mix.

Border Collie

Best known for their herding abilities. This is a high energy dog. These medium-sized dogs have a well-balanced and agile build, and they are recognized for their intense gaze and sharp intelligence.

I love to watch them and my cattle dog at the park chasing frisbees and trying to herd the other dogs.

Dachshund or Wiener dog

Git a long, little doggie.
The Dachshund is a small hound breed known for its distinctive long body and short legs. Originally bred for hunting, Dachshunds have a friendly nature and come in smooth, long-haired, and wire-haired varieties

British Bulldo

g or English Bulldog

The Bulldog, a mastiff-type dog, hails from Britain and is alternatively referred to as the English Bulldog or British Bulldog…

Saint Bernard

In the book ‘The Call of the Wild,’ by Jack London, the dog Buck was a mix of the Saint Bernard and the Scotch Shepherd, making him suited for the harsh Yukon climate.

The Saint Bernard with a keg collar is a popular image linked to the breed, stemming from their historical role as rescue dogs in the Swiss Alps. Though there's scant evidence of them carrying brandy kegs, the concept has become a romanticized symbol, likely spread through stories, illustrations, and media, reinforcing the perception of Saint Bernards as heroic alpine rescuers.

Scotch Shepherd

The Scotch Shepherd, or Scotch Collie, is a versatile breed initially bred for farming. Its lineage traces back thousands of years, stemming from a blend of Roman Cattle dogs, Native Celtic dogs, and Viking Herding Spitzes. Excelling in sheep control, they embody the true essence of a "collie" dog, primarily used for herding tasks.

Shih Tzu or "little lion" in Chinese

Shih Tzu are anything but ferocious. Originating in Tibet, they were once esteemed as sacred pets and bestowed upon Chinese emperors. Known for their playful, loyal, and affectionate nature, they were also dubbed "chrysanthemum-faced dogs" due to their distinctive facial hair pattern.

The Rottweiler

The Rottweiler, a domestic dog breed hailing from Germany, has a storied ancestry tracing back to drover dogs employed by the Romans for herding cattle and safeguarding outposts. These medium-to-large or large dogs are characterized by their abundant energy and friendly disposition. Belonging to the mastiff family, they are known for their robust build and loyal nature.

WireHair Pointer

The German Wirehaired Pointer, also known as the GWP or the Deutsch Drahthaar, is a robust and versatile sporting dog breed. With its distinctive wire-haired coat, this medium-sized dog is built for hunting in harsh terrain and water. Known for their strength, endurance, and adaptability, German Wirehaired Pointers excel in various outdoor activities. They possess a keen intelligence and determination, making them excellent hunters and watchdogs. However, their strong hunting instincts and aloof nature towards strangers require proper socialization and training. With an active owner who provides vigorous exercise and engages them in fieldwork, German Wirehaired Pointers make loyal and energetic companions for individuals with an adventurous spirit.

A Dog Walking His Lady

While out grocery shopping on Memorial Day, I watched as the little pup kept going back to see if his partner was okay. He never pulled too hard and patiently waited for her to keep up.

Not a trained service dog, no doubt, but a service dog, still. Patiently waiting for his mommy.

Dogs of June

Meet Honey, a blonde German Shepherd. You won’t find any dark roots here. Was a workout Wednesday surprise at the park.

She’s Got Betty Davis Eyes! Meet Squeeks a Chorkie. A Chihuahua and Yorkie mix. Isn’s she a doll?

My sister sent this to me from the neighboring town in West Virginia. Wish I had the room. But if you read my about page, you’d see there is no room at the inn, nor the energy. Besides, I have one of these, an Australian Cattle Dog and it’ like having a toddler. These dogs are very high energy and would be best suited for life on a farm. And if I owned a farm I would gladly go and pick her up!

Dogs of July

Scretchen, Bauer, Dugan, Bear, Riley, Maggie, Zai-Zai and Taco

〰️

Scretchen, Bauer, Dugan, Bear, Riley, Maggie, Zai-Zai and Taco 〰️

Dugan is a Cattle Dog Too

Sheila met another Cattle Dog and after few feeling out moments she took to this handsome fella. From the looks of him, he likes playing in the streams too.

Bear the Wonder Mutt

According to her mom, she is 30% Husky, 13% Chow, then Malamute. And the rest Saint Bernard and Lab. They were out and about at the local Petland.

Riley is a Lovely Black Licorice Colored Labrador Retriever

Riley was on an evening walk with her dad. I am partial to Labs. I especially like the Black Licorice and Brown Chocolate Labs. Her dad says she loves the water and a good hunt. (Be still my beating heart!)

Dina the Precious Pekingese

I met her and her mom outside of the Vets office while picking up some insulin for Ernie my orange tabby.

The Pekingese is a small, toy breed known for its distinctive flat face, long, flowing coat, and lion-like mane. Originating from China, this breed was once a favored companion of Chinese royalty. Pekingese are loyal, affectionate, and regal in demeanor, with a confident and sometimes stubborn personality. Their compact size and endearing appearance make them a popular choice for both companionship and show.

Maggie Pit-Boxer Mix

Has black bod but brindle legs…trust me you had to be there.

My camera shot doesn’t do this gorgeous gal justice…She’s a star!

Zai-Zai Means Again

This camera-shy Corgi was out walking on the shady side of the street with her proud Papa!

Taco Anyone?

As smug as a pug-terrier in a rug mix…I live for days like this. Meeting a real Taco on Taco Tuesday!

Bauer, Handsome Yellow Lab

I met this heartthrob while out on a morning walk thru the neighborhood.

Bauer, was out for his morning stroll with his hoomom. I know, I said chocolate and black Labs were my favorites. But then I met this handsome specimen, and suddenly, it’s like the song says: 'If you can’t love the one you want, love the one you’re with.’

Scretchen the Schnauzer

She’s a baby dog only 2 weeks old and out for a walk with her mommy.

Ain’t she toot?

And then l hit the Jackpot! There were oodles of Doodles, Poodles, Malinois and an American Pit. And like other peoples’ pets, they were sooo well behaved. Meanwhile, my Sheila was across the street barking loudly.

Lucy didn’t like being in the waiting room. This Yorkie and Brussel Griffon mix was so nervous waiting for the doctor.

Dogs of September

Meet Nala and Max, my sisters’ baby dogs, the Golden Retriever pups. You can even help buy Max and Nala a ball by buying your own pet something nice. Also meet Poncho, Milo and Porter.

Poncho the Beagle

Ain’t no way you walk around with something this cute and not get your picture taken. While visiting my local Rite Aid, I came upon this cute lil fella.

The Beagle isn’t just a skilled hunting dog and loyal companion—it’s also cheerful, amusing, and irresistibly cute, thanks to its pleading expression. Bred to hunt in packs, Beagles thrive on companionship and have a laid-back nature. There are two varieties: one stands under 13 inches tall at the shoulder, while the other ranges between 13 and 15 inches.

Meet Milo

I saw this handsome lil fella while shopping at Home Depot.

Meet Porter - Boxer, Beagle, Chihuahua Mix

I met this lil cutie while visiting the local Rite Aid. Her mom said that she was named after a beer and not the steak. She had the shiniest coat. Like my dad’s horses, they glistened, and I know how much care and attention he gave to them.

Goku the Tri-Bully

A tri-colored Bully is an American Bully that has three coat colors evident on its fur rather than the typical one with one or two colors. Their coat exhibits a base color along with tan and white points. The base color options include black, blue, chocolate, and lilac.

A tri-color Pit Bull has a coat with three distinct colors, typically featuring a base color (like black, blue, or chocolate) with tan and white markings on areas like the face, chest, and legs. The combination of these three colors creates a striking and unique appearance. TWhile tri-color Pit Bulls are less common than single or bi-colored ones, they aren't considered extremely rare—just more uncommon due to specific gene combinations required for this pattern. Their unique look makes them stand out in the Pit Bull breed.
