Meet Slugger Pittsburgh Pirates New Team Dog

As of my last knowledge update, Slugger, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ team dog, is a mixed breed. However, I recommend checking official sources or recent updates to confirm this information, as details about Slugger’s breed may have changed since then. My daughter thinks he is a black German Shepherd pup.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have once again collaborated with Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs, an organization establishing a training center in Western Pennsylvania. They will oversee the education of the pup, preparing it to be paired with a military veteran in need.

"The furry forthcoming service dog is set to make appearances at Pirates games and community gatherings, the team announced. "These interactions with fans will provide vital socialization opportunities crucial for the pup's development into a service dog."

Last year, the team's inaugural Pirate Pup, Bucco, was matched with a local veteran in September 2023. Selected by the fans over options like Homer, Rookie, and Jolly, Bucco commenced a meaningful journey as the team's first canine companion.
