What Magic Does Disney World Have for Your Dog 2024?

Oh, you wouldn't believe the pet friendly things we find out living here in Da 'Burgh! For instance, every Labor Day, the Allegheny County Parks pools throw a bash for dogs. Yes, you heard me right—a dog swim. You and your furry friend get to dive in, and all you need is proof that your pup won't be spreading rabies poolside. Now that Sheila has been socialized, we look forward to finally being able to take her to this event. Doggy paddle, anyone?

We are not world travelers, however, we have somewhat mastered the art of traveling with our dog, Sheila and our diabetic cat Ernie, checking into only the most pet-friendly hotels. And we are planning a trip to Florida, to Disney World, now that girls are millennials. So, naturally, I got to thinking—does Disney host a "Bring Your Dog to the Park Day"? Imagine the magic with Mickey and your mutt, right? Well, here's the scoop. In 2022, Disney had a thing called "Dog Days" which ran from January 13-19th. A week-long fiesta where you could stroll down Main Street with your four-legged friend. But hold your hounds; you needed special reservations for your furball, and it set you back 50 bucks a pop per day. July 2022 was the last hurrah, and I'm still waiting on the invite for 2024. Bummer alert!

Before you start dreaming of Dumbo and your Dachshund having a tea party with Alice, the Mad Hatter and Goofy let me burst that bubble. Typically, only service animals get the VIP treatment in Disney's kingdom. No frolicking for Fido in the water parks or Disney Springs. But fear not, my fellow dog enthusiasts, for Fort Wilderness, the Disney resort for the truly paw-some, offers Waggin' Trails Dog Park. It's like Disney's Club Bark but way better!

Waggin' Trails, nestled in Fort Wilderness, is a doggy haven. Two huge, grassy fenced areas for pups of all sizes—because even Chihuahuas dream big in Disney. This resort, near the Magic Kingdom, caters to all your camping, cabin, and doggy desires. But hold your Mickey ears, it's not Disneyland in California.

The best part? Waggin' Trails is not just fenced; it's leash-free! It's like the doggy version of running through Cinderella's castle, minus the midnight curfew. Open from dawn to dusk, there are even water stations with self-filling bowls. So, you sit back, relax, and watch your dog live his Disney dreams. Now, if only Goofy could join in on the fun. As our trip plans develop, I will keep you posted… I know what you’re thinkin’, SPOILED! Right?
